This semester, I took part in the Gateway to University Honors class, a one credit hour course designed for incoming honors freshman. Within the course, we discussed the various topics associated with honors, such as honors experiences or nationally competitive awards, as well as what it means to be an honors student. In addition, we interacted in groups with other honors students and build connections with our classmates.
What I have learned from this experience is unique. For one, this experience is one of the first that I have participated in. Through this introductory program, I have become familiar with the four pillars of the honors program: community engagement, global studies, leadership, and research & creative arts. Not only have I become familiar with them, but I have begun to tie each of them into my experience at UC, as well as the many future experiences I hope to participate it. In addition, this class taught me about the variety of ways in which I can be engaged with these experiences, from seminars, to pre-approved experiences, to self-designed experiences.
I plan on integrating what I have learned in the class through future experiences I hope to enjoy. I have designed a proposal for an experience involving artificial intelligence, and I hope to someday soon have the knowledge necessary to act upon that experience. In addition, I plan on participating in undergraduate research very early on at UC, while also tying that research in to co-ops in the future, as well as partaking in leadership roles in various groups on campus in the future, such as IEEE, ACM, and CEAS Tribunal.

This is a reflection of my passion of problem solving, including how it came about, why it is my passion, and what I hope to do with my love of problem solving in the future. This ties in to my learning by helping me identify what I'm passionate about, so that I may pursue it in the future through the Honors program at UC, using their resources to the best of my ability.

This is my example of an honors proposal involving creating a program that uses machine learning to figure out rules to a card game where the rules are unknown and changing. This ties in to my learning by giving me an idea as to how I want to act on one of the principles of the Honors program, namely the pillar of research.
